Gorgeous pines today!

Today was a beautiful day for a hike. It started off in the 40s, but by the end was a comfortable 55⁰ outside. Either way, we made sure to bundle up. Since it’s bow season, we added some hunter orange to be safe.

We went for an out and back hike today. It’s going to be tough to conquer 4000 miles one chunk at a time, but we are doing pretty good so far!

Our trail segment today was near the Yankee Springs Recreation Area, beginning from the Chief Noonday trailhead, and ending near MacDonald Lake.

We saw two other hikers en route today, but otherwise it was very quiet. I was impressed by the variety of different kinds of trees out here in the Gun Lake area! And so much of it was peaceful and untouched. I hope we can continue to preserve quiet corners of our world like this one.

I want to give a special shoutout to our trail snacks for today: Goldfish. Who knew hiking and snacking made such a good combo? As long as you pack in and pack out 👍

The fall colors have begun to make their yearly appearance here in Michigan. I’ve never taken the time to be so immersed in the change. It’s truly incredible to hike through it and watch the colors as they trail down each tree–all in their own time.

That’s about all I have to share for this week. We saw some amazing fungi that you can check out on our Instagram!

6.05 miles down, 3993 to go ✌️
